Navigating the complex emotional landscape of childhood can often feel like floating in vast, uncharted space. When big feelings—like worry, sadness, anger, or overwhelm—take over, children can easily feel adrift or disconnected. That’s where the power of trauma-informed, relational sensory play comes in to anchor them back down to Earth.
We are thrilled to unveil our latest collaboration with Feather and Leaf co: The Lost Galaxy Sensory Base paired with The Lost Galaxy Workbook.
Together, they offer children a grounding, tactile invitation to explore their internal universe safely and playfully.
Blast Off into Tactile Exploration 🚀
The hands-on component of this resource centres on a mesmerising cosmic sensory jar. Designed to stimulate fine motor control and engage the nervous system, the sensory base includes:
Midnight Cosmic Base: Dark grains mixed with metallic silver chickpeas, purple beads, and black beans that mimic the depths of space.
Playful Galaxy Charms: Featuring Asher the Astronaut, a space rocket, a mini Earth charm, star beads, and friendly aliens.
Tactile Felt Planets: Soft felt pom-poms in vivid pink, deep blue, and cosmic purple representing mysterious distant worlds.
"Space is a place of mystery, filled with swirling clouds of deep purples, metallic greens, and midnight blues. It is a place where even the brightest stars sometimes feel a little bit lost—and that is where our mission begins."
What’s Inside The Lost Galaxy Workbook? 🌌
While the sensory jar provides tactile grounding, the accompanying workbook weaves in therapeutic prompts designed to help children recognize, name, and process every feeling in their universe.
Key Highlights Include:
⭐ Starry Reflections: Interactive visual mapping exercises where kids can map out the stars of their own unique emotions.
🚀 Space Skills: Practical somatic and breathwork tools to help kids navigate through the "heavy gravity" of big feelings like anxiety or frustration.
🪐 Sensory Play Prompts: Guided prompts that directly connect the physical sensory base to emotional reflection and imaginative storytelling.
📝 Mission Notes: Heartfelt, relational reminders that no matter how "lost" or overwhelmed we feel in our worries, we are never truly alone.
🎨 Mindful Activities: Engaging galaxy-themed colouring pages and word searches to help rest and regulate between big conversations.
Why Relational & Sensory Tools Work Together
Children often lack the precise adult vocabulary needed to explain overwhelming internal states. Sensory play bypasses the need for high-level verbal expression by giving children a tactile container to externalise what they feel inside.
By following Asher the Astronaut on his mission, kids learn that emotions aren't "bad" or "scary"—they are simply coordinates in a vast inner galaxy that can be explored with curiosity, warmth, and supportive adults.
Bring The Mission Home or into Your Practice
Whether you are a parent supporting a child through big emotional transitions, or a clinician incorporating sensory tools into therapy, The Lost Galaxy provides a supportive bridge between play and emotional regulation.
